Movie Review - Teen Patti

As the end credits roll in Teen Patti we see A Film by Leena Yadav as if we have witnessed a masterpiece from the director which is not the case in reality. Yet again we see a film which takes its heart from a Hollywood film, this time the movie is a 2008 movie called 21. The film is all about mathematics or if we wish to be particular it's about probability. Ironically the director seems to be a novice in terms of probability as the chances of this film excelling are pretty low.

The movie opens new gates of boredom to a viewer and lacks substance as incoherence and slow pace looms throughout the film. The director seems to be in two minds as she borrows the script from Hollywood but fails to implement it completely as the protagonist happens to be Amitabh Bachchan who cannot be portrayed in a negative shade. So we see the conscience taking over the evil things for Amitabh Bachchan's character which signals doom for the film in its initial stages itself.

The film is about a teacher called Venkat Subramaniam played by Amitabh Bachchan who is a professor in mathematics (often termed lunatic by colleagues). He has cracked a theory in probability and is out there in casinos to prove it with his students and a fellow teacher called Shantanu (played by R Madhvan). Initially they begin with small dens but end up at big private parties and are raking in crores. All this seems funny while writing and at the time of watching.

The film works on least amount of logic and seems to be obsessed with Amitabh Bachchan and Sir Ben Kingsley; otherwise they would have thought of writing a good script and story to carry the film. There is gambling going around in a college of repute and no one seems to take a notice. There is a serious issue of money and danger which director tries to raise with the film, but the story supports the cause no where in the film. There is absolute fantasy going around in the college and no one is spared from the hands of director. We see a couple from college claiming themselves to be Bonnie and Clyde and a professor is seen going to parties with a Blonde and she says Biscottino to him. These scenes while trying to portray the declining values offer nothing and are plain comic in essence. The guest appearances remain guest to us and do spare us from the horror.

The talent of Amitabh Bachchan is wasted and the film stretches like a bubble gum and it is the end that gives maximum relief to the viewer. There are quite a lot of The film can be best enjoyed in trailers as there is nothing new or concrete in the film.

Oscar Battle - The Hurt Locker PK Avatar

As what we have seen in my previous article (The Hurt Locker PK Avatar - Which Will Be Oscar Winner?), both Cameron and Bigelow are the hot favorites to win the best director Oscar at next month's Academy Awards bash. And although Cameron may have looked like the front-runner by winning the Golden Globe with "Avatar", her ex-wife Bigelow ("The Hurt Locker") is absolutely a strong rival in awards race, who won BAFTA's Best Director Award as well as most of the other major best director gongs including Directors Guild of America award.

If Kathryn Bigelow wins in this Oscar Awards race, it will be the best revenge to James Cameron. (Although it is reported that they are good friends now, no woman can bear being betrayed and I believe she is not an exception)

Ok, let's first take a look at their short marriage.

Cameron and Bigelow were married in 1989, but this famed director left her in 1991 for the actress of "Terminator", Linda Hamilton.

After that, Bigelow committed himself to her word and career. However, it seems that she was not so successful as her ex-husband.

However, God will pay your dues some day, and The Hurt Locker allows Bigelow head-to-head this season for awards and has taken the high road when it comes to dealing with her ex in the spotlight.

"Kathryn was definitely the underdog before," says an insider. "But now it's feasible that she could win the Oscar, too."

But comparing with his former husband Cameron, she is much calm. At the backstage of Critics' Choice Awards, she was asked what she thought about beating her ex-husband James Cameron in two categories (the best director as well as the best picture), but she skillfully fenced with the question.

On the contrary, Cameron openly claimed he didn't care the "best director" of Oscar.

"I have already got an Oscar. I've got a couple of them... I don't really need another one." he said.

Anyway, I support Kathryn Bigelow and firmly believe that The Hurt Locker will beat Avatar in Oscar Awards.

Life Change, Which Harry Potter Character Are You?

Think of the three main characters in the Harry Potter movies. There is Harry, Hermione, and Ron. They each have their own personality. When you think of the life change you want to make, which Harry potter character are you?

Harry

Harry is a mix of a couple of different types. His character is strong, but he is a little reluctant to be who he really is, the chosen one.

Is this you? You may be strong in your personality, your character, but you are a little afraid to be who you really are, or who you really want to be. You want to change your life to be more who you were meant to be, but you aren't sure that you can pull it off.

You are the chosen one. You were created to be unique and special. There has never been anyone exactly like you and never will be again. You have to find the courage to step up to the plate and be that chosen one. Use your strength and get over your own false sense of humility.

Hermione

Hermione has a lot of intelligence and is not afraid to use it when there is little risk. She is insecure about her half blood heritage and is not sure if she really belongs or not. She struggles to step into her abilities and her sexuality.

Is this you? You really have a lot of intelligence, but you are afraid that you don't quite fit in. You like being smart and knowing what to do, but when it comes to it, you don't always do so because you are afraid that you don't fit in and might not be accepted. You want to become stronger in your self worth and you would like to be more the man or woman you are.

Life change is hard for you because you are not sure you want to change. Things are fine the way they are and if they change, you are unsure of your place in the whole scheme of things.

Use your intelligence and step into the life you are meant to live. You can be so much more and be so much more to the world and the people around you if you would simply be brave enough.

Ron

Ron is unsure about nearly everything. When the chips are down, Ron shows a lot of strength, but most of the time he would just as soon fade into the woodwork. He is jealous of Harry and nearly any one who seems to be able to stand on their own.

Is this you? You really want to be a strong person and stand out from the crowd, but you do the exact opposite. Even your posture shows your insecurity. If you could change your life, you would be the life of the party and the hero of the day. Unfortunately, you are so insecure in yourself that you can never bring yourself to make that change. You need others around you to bring out your true nature.

You can be so much more! Allow life change to take you and make you into the person you are meant to be! Stand tall and know that you are as good as anyone else and that you do have something to contribute.

Who are you really?

I had some fun there with the Harry Potter characters. You may not see them the way I described at all. The character types are real enough, however. Did you see yourself in any of them?

You can be so much more than you are if you would only allow the change to take place. It will take work and there will be many challenges. You will face your own mortal enemy, but in truth, you are stronger than you know.

Slumdog Millionaire - A Review of a Great Movie

I recently watched the Hindi film "Slumdog Millionaire" and am not sure that it will be possible to watch a better movie the rest of the year. I know that the movie caught a lot of flack, mainly due to its title and its portrayal of the poorer classes of India, but I think that these critics have overlooked the true intentions of the writers, director, and actors.

Yes, it did portray a darker side of India; it did dwell, it seems, on the negative aspects of the plight of the people, but I think if one only dwells on these in their whole, then the true details tend to get muddled in the flow of the movie.

Jamal, in all his plight, was able to show forth three things that most people in much better circumstances have great difficulty expressing: true joy, true forgiveness, and true peace.

True joy: When Jamal jumped into the cess pool with the intent of getting to his hero for an autograph, he showed a determination like no other. But what caught my attention was when after he had the autograph, even though he was standing in one of the filthiest slums in India, and he was completely covered in human feces, all he saw was that his goal had been accomplished. Regardless of his circumstances and surroundings, Jamal proved that true joy comes from inside.

True forgiveness: Even though he told his brother that he would never forgive him for what he did to the girl, Jamal seemed to display a perpetual forgiving heart throughout the film to all those who had wronged him. His eyes were always looking ahead at what could be accomplished, not at what had been.

True peace: In line with his joy and forgiveness, Jamal displayed a peace that no one could take away. From dealing with the horrible living conditions, to facing police brutality, experiencing the downright bigotry of the television host, to enduring his brother's betrayals, we never seem to see Jamal quit or show any lack of desire.

What most people should take away from this movie isn't the depravity and poverty that are shown, but rather the positive things that someone in that situation can garner from his situation. Like the old saying goes "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade."

Lost TV Series - Season 2 Review

The end of season one of Lost left us looking into the interior of the hatch which had been blown open with the use of some explosives which had been found inside a wrecked ship on the island. It turns out that inside the hatch is a research station which has electricity and running water. It also has plenty of food stocked within it and an occupant called Desmond. According to Desmond the world will end if a sequence of numbers isn't typed into the 1970's era computer every 108 minutes. The problem is that the computer has been damaged during the attempt to access the station. It turns out though that Sayid also has some computer skills and fixes the computer just in time, but not before Desmond does a runner. The number sequence incidentally is 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, and 42

There is some debate as to whether or not Desmond is telling the truth about the consequences of not entering the numbers into the now fixed computer. However, the group decide to err on the side of caution and setup shifts so that the timetable can be kept.

The group do a bit of research inside the station and find some video instruction manuals which reveal that a group called the Dharma Initiative have set up a network of stations on the island. The one they are currently in is called the Swan Station.

While on a foray to try and find Vincent, Walt's dog, Shannon comes across Walt but he is soaking wet and appears to be speaking backwards. Something else disconcerting about this encounter is that Walt appears to blink in and out of existence. Shannon thinks that something has happened to the guys that left of the raft and her fears worsen when she along with Claire come across the bottle of messages that was supposed to have been delivered by Sawyer, Walt, Jin and Michael to the mainland on the raft, washed up on the beach.

After the attack on the four survivors on the raft and the subsequent abduction of Walt and the disappearance of Jin, Michael and Sawyer construct another raft from the wreckage. The current carries them back to the island where they find Jin and another group of survivors. This group, led by Ana Lucia were in the tail section of the aircraft which crashed on a different part of the island. Other survivors introduced at this point are Mr. Eko and Libby.

After initially distrusting the newcomers and wanting to hold them captive, Ana Lucia agrees to travel to the other side of the island where the two main groups of survivors are now reunited.

Shannon and Sayid are starting to become something of an item and Shannon confides in Sayid, asking for his help, after revealing the visions of Walt she has been having. As Sayid and Shannon admit their love for each other Walt appears again, talking backwards. Shannon chases him into the jungle but startles an unprepared Ana Lucia who mistakes Shannon for one of The Others and shoots her dead. At this point we learn a little more about the experiences of the tail section survivors and the fact that 12 of their number have been abducted by The Others. Ana Lucia feels guilty about killing Shannon and although heartbroken at her loss, Sayid eventually comes to accept that it wasn't her fault. This though leads to him developing a hatred of The Others.

Claire has to come to a decision about Charlie. He has been getting more and more paranoid about his need to protect Claire's baby, so much so that he actually endangers his life at one point. Charlie eventually backs off and takes Mr Eko to see the Beechcraft and starts to grieve over the death of his brother who it turns out dies on that very plane. This inspires Mr Eko to believe in the power of the island so he begins to build a church on the island in order to repay his debt to Yemi.

Claire is forced to explore one of the other Dharma stations call the Staff in search of medicine when her baby falls ill. During her search she find out that one of The Others known as Tom wears a false beard. Why would they need to hide their identities?

A man identifying himself as Henry Gale from Minnesota apparently crashes on the island after being blown there in a balloon. He is captured by Rousseau and the group have doubts about his story, particularly Sayid, who still grieving for Shannon, tortures him while he is held captive in a small room inside The Swan.

During Locke's shift at the computer he fails to enter the number in time and the station goes into lockdown mode. Only Henry Gale is able to get to the computer through the air vents and Locke instructs him to enter the code. As the countdown gets down to zero a blast door reveals the arrangement of stations on the island. Just as Locke starts to read the diagram, everything returns to normal in the station even though Gale says he never got to enter the code. It turns out though that Sayid was right and Gale isn't who he says he is and admits to being one of The Others. This whole event though makes Locke doubt his faith in the island.

Eko and Locke discover a station called The Pearl station which seems to have been designed to monitor ongoings in all the other stations. Locke hypothesises that the whole thing about entering code numbers into the computer in The Swan station is a psychological experiment. Mr Eko though only redoubles his faith and is even more sure that entering the numbers is the right thing to do.

Meanwhile, Michael is on a mission to find his son, Walt. He uses The Swan's computer to communicate with Walt and decides to go and find him but he is captured by The Others. When he is brought to what looks like The Others camp, a collection of huts, Michael is allowed three minutes to spend some time with Walt. Michael strikes a deal with The Others, but the price is quite high. Michael is released with instructions to go back to the camp and release Henry Gale. On top of this he has to persuade Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Hurley to go back to The Others camp at which point Walt will be released. Michael thinks that he will never get the group to agree to The Others' terms and so sets about a plan of his own. He kills Ana Lucia and Libby and frees Henry Gale. He then shoots himself in the shoulder to make it look like Gale had escaped by himself. As the group hold a memorial for the two dead women, Desmond returns in a sailboat.

Michael puts together the next phase of his plan. Michael tells Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Hurley that he wants to raid The Others' camp to rescue Walt and that he needs their help. Sayid isn't convinced that Michael is being straight with them though and thinks that he is leading them into a trap. His plan consists of using Desmond's sail boat to approach the camp from the seaward side. He gets Sun to translate for him and enlists the help of Jin as he knows how to sail. Although it has been revealed that Jin is infertile it has also been revealed that Sun is pregnant.

Even though Jack is aware of Michael's plan, The Others are still successful in capturing him, Kate, Sawyer and Hurley. Henry Gale reveals himself to be the leader of The Others and keep his end of the bargain, allowing Michael and Walt to leave by boat. Hurley is told to go back to the survivors' camp and tell them that they are never to return there.

Meanwhile, Sayid, Sun and Jin arrive at The Others camp and find it abandoned. They start a signal fire and sit and wait for Jack's party to arrive.

Locke decides he wants to experiment with The Swan's computer and the process of entering the numbers. He drafts in the help of Desmond and they both relieve Mr Eko. However, Desmond suddenly realises that the last time the code wasn't entered in time was the day of the plane crash. The two argue over whether or not the threat is real but the counter reaches zero and a huge magnetic field is created. It seems this must have been the cause of the crash. Desmond reveals that there is a system termination station under the floor and leads the way to it. He activates the station by turning a key. The island is then engulfed in a bright white light and deluged with a loud shrill sound.

Right at the end of Lost Season 2 our point of view changes to that of a polar research station. Two men notice something on their instruments and proceed to phone Penelope, who turns out to be Desmond's old fiance that they have found the anomaly.

Movie Shutter Island - Beware! Martin Scorsese Thriller

Shutter Island will keep you mesmerized throughout the film. It is a taunt, twisting thriller that keeps you guessing with the characters. What is going on? Leonardo DiCaprio, Sir Ben Kingsley, and Max von Sydow give gripping performances, filled with menace and intensity.

The movie is based on a novel written by Dennis Lehane, who wrote Gone Baby Gone. The novel was adapted for the screen by Laeta Kalogridis, of the Pathfinder fame. The direction chores are ably handled by c, the Oscar winning director of The Departed. Shutter Island would be a less spell binding thriller under a lesser director. Martin Scorsese assembled an immensely talented cast and inflicted excellent performances from each. The taunt edge of your seat pacing drives the story, what is going to happen next. The scene selection must of been tough but, the editing was top notch.

The story begins in 1954 with U.S. Marshall Teddy Daniels, Leonardo DiCaprio (The Departed) and his new partner Chuck Aule, Mark Ruffalo (What Doesn't Kill You) going to Shutter Island, a famous insane asylum for the worst of the worst. They have been sent to investigate the escape by a woman who drowned her three children and disappeared into thin air. The island is only approachable by one pier that leads to the only gate and the rest of the island is dominated by sheer cliffs. The insane asylum is really bizarre and gives them both the creeps.

They meet Dr. Cawley, Sir Ben Kingsley (War,Inc.) and are allowed to investigate, with supervision, the crime scene. Both Teddy and Chuck discover that everything is not as it seems. The woman escaped from a small room with barred windows and locked from the outside. She had to had help. That evening they are invited to dinner at Dr. Cawley's and meet the other doctor in charge, Dr. Naehring, Max Von Sydow, (The Tudors) and start believing there is a cover up. The doctors won't release the patient or employee files to them, and one doctor has already left the island.

A hurricane is bearing down on the island, communication to the mainland is cut off and the ferry that brought them is not running. The back story on Teddy now begins to appear. He is an alcoholic that has bizarre nightmares about his wife, Dolores, who died in an apartment fire. The nightmares continue to haunt him throughout the movie. The doctors, patients and staff seem to be hiding the truth, there is something going on at the asylum, in fact one patient writes down "run" in his notebook. He suspects that Dr. Cawley is misdirecting him and Dr. Naehring is a Nazi war criminal up to no good.

He seems to be thwarted in his efforts to visit all the wards. The hurricane becomes worse and the inmates from the worst ward have escaped. Teddy and Chuck now have their opportunity to slip in and see for themselves. Teddy and Chuck become separated and Teddy finds an informant that tells him about the asylum and that nefarious brain surgeries are going on at the lighthouse on the end of the island. He and Chuck go to investigate the lighthouse and Chuck balks at climbing down the cliffs. Teddy never makes it because of the storm and on his way back he sees Chuck's body on the rocks below and he is horrified. He also discovers a cave where the escaped woman is hiding. She tells him about the asylum and the experiments going on out at the lighthouse and that he is in grave danger. He in fact is being drugged and she shows him the evidence. She won't leave with him because she says he won't make off the island.

The next day Teddy is determined to get to the lighthouse. He blows up Dr. Cawley's car as a diversion and heads for the lighthouse. He swims out to the lighthouse and knocks out the guard and begins to ascend the stairs. Up, up he goes checking the rooms finding nothing until the very last room at the top. You will never believe what he finds. The climax is very clever and wholly unsuspected. This is a powerfully written and acted scene that will amaze you.

The authors have created a suspenseful and dynamic movie. Martin Scorsese's deft touch at the controls delivers a tense, rocket ride full of action and drama. Leonardo DiCaprio shows us why his star is always on the rise with his intense performance. Sir Ben Kingsley and Max von Sydow are both excellent at delivering mystery and menace in their portrayals of the sinister doctors. Mark Ruffalo excels and delivers a fine performance.

The movie Shutter Island is immensely entertaining and you are so involved in the story that the it is over before you can draw a slow breath. Well written and crafted with excellent performances, Shutter Island is a must see movie. You will even forget you have popcorn and a soda until the end.

The Movie "The Horse Whisperer" And The Law Of Attraction

My first experiences of "Source Energy," this energy that is filled with joy and love and a knowing that we are but a part of this magnificent unfolding of life on earth is how I feel when I am in nature... nature is pure Source energy, one cannot be in nature without feeling this awe of the miracle of every flower and mountain and river and ocean.

The Horse Whisperer is a magnificent film in many ways and one profound way is the experience one receives in watching the beauty of nature unfold, the rivers and the mountains and the glory of it all is here to behold.

Annie (Kristen Scott Thomas) is the editor of "Cover" magazine, a glamorous New York magazine. She is hardnosed and quick to impatience and irritability. And basically this is a story of one woman's determination and inspired action to save her daughter and ultimately herself.

Grace (Scarlett Johanssen) is the daughter of Annie and Robert (Sam Neil). Grace is passionate about horses especially her very own, named Pilgrim. When her friend Judith and herself go out for an early morning ride one day, it ends in a tragic accident causing Judith's death and Graces losing one of her legs. Pilgrim is terribly injured and it is recommended that he be put down. Annie feeling in her gut that this is not the right thing to do says "no" to this decision.

Pilgrim is a changed horse, not only badly injured but also deeply traumatized... and this gets acted out in erratic and explosive behaviour.

Grace gets out of the hospital and is deeply discouraged and despairing about her changed life circumstances. When she first sees Pilgrim after the accident, she becomes even more discouraged and alarmed at how her beloved horse is suffering and has changed. She sees the deep trauma in his eyes.

Annie's world gets turned upside down, because of her worry about how Grace is going to recover from this accident... and so Annie begins the search for help. She has a deep knowing that if Grace stays in New York, where she now goes to school that she will become more and more depressed... Annie's desire for her daughters restoration to wellness gets ignited in a powerful way. In her search on the internet for help she comes across the work of horse healer, Tom Booker (Robert Redford), who lives in Montana. She calls him and says... "I read this article about what you do for people with horse problems" she says and he responds "the truth is I help horses with people problems." This conversation that ends with Tom saying he cannot help her, motivates Annie to take inspired action and bring Grace and Pilgrim out to Montana to see Mr. Tom Booker. She has a deep knowing that this will be healing for them.

In a discussion with her husband, her anger and her frustration is fully shown, as she bangs on the table and says "I cannot explain it, I just know it is the right thing."

And so Annie loads up the horse trailer with Pilgrim and a hostile and reluctant Grace and they head out to Montana. In a moment of truth between Annie and Grace, while on the road... Grace who is accusing her mother of acting selfishly and saying that this trip is all about her and nothing more... Annie yells... "I don't know... I don't have all the answers" And Grace replies " no, you just act like you do..."

The healing in this story begins as soon as one sees the scenery that Annie and Grace are driving through... it is stunningly beautiful...

Annie finds Tom Booker at last and he is stunned that she has driven a traumatized horse all the way out to Montana from New York... he lets her know that this trip is likely a waste of time and Annie in her KNOWING say "listen please don't do the shucks mam thing again, I have just driven a few thousand miles for a few minutes of your time... just take a look at him and if you still feel the same way I will be on the road in the morning and you will never hear from me again... OK deal?... Tom Booker is says..."Gee" as we can tell he agrees to do as he is asked.

Question for Grace "I do not know if I can do anything and I am prepared to give it a go if you will help... do have a problem with that... Grace scowls, looks at her amputated leg and says "isn't it obvious" and Tom says "not to me it isn't." At last Grace agrees to cooperate and the healing begins to unfold.

Funny moments when Tom's brother's wife says "that's just what we need a vegetarian from New York on our cattle ranch."

Annie's deep WANTING for her daughter's recovery is matched by her own transformation that slowly occurs. She tries to do her work while at the ranch and it gets I the way of the flow of what is before her and she ends up losing her job and while stunned, realizes that it is just a job and what is happening here is more important to her.

Annie slowly gets led back into activities that she used to love, like horse back riding and being alone in nature and just being instead of doing all the time.

Annie's desire for deep intimacy that has not been present in her marriage with her husband to date... begins to get rekindled when her and Tom Booker have an attraction for one another. In one scene Tom and Annie are talking on the front porch and Annie's leg is moving up and down nervously... Tom says "do you ever sit still" and Annie replies "if you sit still in New York for to long you get renovated." Interesting metaphor for how one can get lost in the hustle and bustle of life in any big city. Tom encourages Annie to relax into the place while she is here. And then Tom shares his past relationship with his wife... he used to live in Chicago with her and she loved the city and he needed more space and it was just not meant to be... the relationship that is... and an obvious deep love is still very present... Annie asks him "how did you know that you were not meant for each other" to which Tom relies "knowing is the easy part, saying it out loud is the hard part.' In a moment of intimacy between Annie and Tom, Tom says "for what it is worth, it took a lot of guts for you to come here." And then he intimately squeezes her leg, as she is getting settled back on her horse... this is the beginning of a more physical relationship between the two of them.

And then Annie's husband arrives unannounced and the tension between the two of them starts to soften when he says "you were right to bring them here."... The country dance is when her husband gets a clue that something is happening between Annie and Tom... the dance to the song "looking for a soft place to fall" is erotic and touching between them. A scene after this when Annie comes in to the barn after Tom and Tom says to her "you have to figure out what you WANT" and she says "do you know what you WANT"... he reply's "I do know what I want and I am trying real hard not to get lost in this... I never expected to feel this way again. Annie this is where I belong, this is what I want, is this what you want? She says "Yes" and he says if you could go home and change things would you and she replies "it is not that simple" to which he replies "it is that simple."

They talk about being in "Source" "in peace", when stopping for a break after an exhilarating ride. Annie says how she envy's Tom's mother because she is older and has no more "impossible decisions to make" they are mostly behind her... and Tom says "I don't think you have to wait to be her age to find that kind of peace" She asks him if he has that kind of peace to which he reply's "sometimes waking up in the morning, knowing what I am suppose to be doing that day, knowing I'm HOME... she replies that she wakes up every morning, worrying if she made the right decisions and the more I try to fix things the more things seem to fall apart" to which Tom replies "just let em fall." She says "I can't."

Tom begins the process of loving Pilgrim back into positive alignment with the magnificent beast he is... soothing him and loving him daily, step by step... the trauma has caused Pilgrim to forget who he really is. It is such a great story and unfolding and one witnesses how animals help to stabilize us and ground us to the planet.

Tom is also the catalyst who slowly helps brings Grace back into alignment with her Source energy... the joy and wonder of who she really is... knowing full well that a missing limb is not all that significant to who one really is. He gets to know Grace and asks her for more information on what happened that dreadful day of the accident... when she shares, he encourages her to stay focused and present and not go into the deep depression that he knows she could, if she was not focused on the day to day progression of healing Pilgrim and life on the ranch... "do whatever you have to do to hold on and I'll tell you one more thing, you know when Pilgrim reared up on you I think that damn horse loved you so much he was trying to protect you"... lowering Grace's resistance by giving her much needed knowledge about Pilgrim and his love for her... that profound bond between beast and human.

Tom also is the catalyst in bringing Annie and Grace closer together... one evening after the adults find out the Grace tried to ride a horse, Grace goes off in anger and Tom says to Annie "don't let her turn you away" and Annie goes into Grace's room and says how great it is that she is riding again. They break through their anger with one another and Grace starts to cry saying "who is ever going to want me like this, nobody will (she is referring to her leg)"... Annie responds "one day someone will look at this extraordinary woman and all they will see is how much they love you... that is all I see."

Another aspect of this story that is so lovely is how the Bookers live their lives day to day on the ranch. The knowing what they will do each day and going with the flow of nature and the chores and the knowing that this is where they are meant to be and what they are meant to be doing, he ebb and flow of it all. It is lovely to watch how Annie and Grace become part of this daily unfolding doing what they can to pitch in and be of help.

And then the whole aspect of grounded extended family is witnessed when they have large gatherings of the relatives coming over and sharing a day of labor and a meal. It shows the way a person gets a sense of belonging to something greater than oneself, a stability at one's core.

The grand finale is when Tom believes that Pilgrim is ready for Grace to finally ride again. So much preparation has gone into this moment and it is magnificent how Tom knows just what to do to, especially when it appears that Pilgrim is not ready because he behaves as though he is still scared... and then Pilgrim collapses after having the resistance within him worked out and then soothed. Grace is part of the soothing, when Tom invites her over to rub Pilgrim and prepare him for the ride that will release Pilgrim from the trauma once and for all... the deep love and bond between Pilgrim and Grace is shown in this profound scene, with Tom saying to Grace "there is a point when neither of you are going to need me anymore and we are there!" Such a statement of empowerment, the ultimate gift one can offer another... this indeed has been Tom's vision all along. Grace helps lift Pilgrim up with her on his back and Pilgrim begins the ride back into full alignment with the stream of Wellness that flows through him. Grace of course being ecstatic throwing her arms into the air with absolute joy.

Annie and her husband have the moment of truth between them when he says to her "I swear I stood looking at that horse and I swear that the same thing was happening to me and I have two choices, I can either fight the way things are or accept them... see I've always known that I loved you more than you loved me, it didn't bother me... I guess I felt rather lucky, even amazed that a woman like you would want to be with a man like me and I would think if I could be the best husband or the best father and even being a good lawyer was only good if it meant it could get you me... and I didn't ask for more because I told myself I didn't need anymore but the truth is you don't know how you feel about me, you don't know if you want a life with me anymore and the truth is I don't want you to come home until you do know, one way or the other OK... and Annie nods in agreement... hugging him closely and tenderly realizing what he has been through... we the audience are left with the impression after Annie asks Tom for a final ride together and then takes off without the going on the ride... that she is going back home to be more true to herself and her husband...

A wonderful show of love and desire and the unfolding of the universe... as difficult as it can be at times. The LAW OF ATTRACTION is at the heart of all desire, this that we call "WANTING."

The Movie "The Notebook" and the Law of Attraction

The Notebook is my favorite romance movie and a wonderful movie to explain the LAW OF ATTRACTION. It is the story of a young man named Noah, who at the opening of the movie, spots the love of his life, Allie Hamilton. The moment he sees Allie, her knows this is who he is WANTING and he is steady and faithful to this knowledge throughout the entire movie. He comes on screen as a relaxed and easy going young man, who lives day to day, in the state of 'Source Energy."

It is the story of how a man, who from the moment he sees Allie, falls instantly in love with her. His love for her, throughout the movie never falters, not once. Even after Allie is forced to leave the town where they met because her parents do not want her marrying a man of such a low class, Noah continues to love her. He writes her 365 letters for a one year period trying to keep his connection to her, and then finds out that Allie's mother takes all the letters and Allie does not see any of them.

Allie thinks that Noah does not want to see or hear from her again, because he does not write to her. She ends up meeting another man, Lon, when she was working as a nurse at a veteran's hospital. After a while Lon asks her to marry him and she agrees.

In one scene, Noah and Allie are in a big old run down house where they are going to make love for the first time and Noah shares that he wants to build a house some day on this very site and he starts to talk about what it will look like and Allie says

"What about me, don't I get any say in all of this?" and Noah responds "do you want a say in this" and Allie say "well ya, I want a white house with blue shutters and a big old porch wrapped right around the whole porch" and Noah promises then and there that, what she WANTS, he will build.

After one year, he writes one last letter saying, "good - bye" and then stops writing to Allie. He goes off to war and upon his return, his father has sold his house and bought the house that is on the lake for Noah.

At one point, after Noah's time spent at war, Noah goes to a town for some business and ends up seeing Allie, on the street. He follows her and he observes her meeting her new fiance. He kind of snaps emotionally, goes back home and begins to renovate the old house that his father has bought for him, with a fury like never before. It is like he is obsessed with the idea of creating this that Allie wanted, believing that she would return to him.

Throughout, one knows that Noah is still deeply in love with Allie, and reference is made several times to the fact that Allie is still in love with Noah. When Allie sees a photo of Noah at his newly renovated house in the paper, she faints and begins to think of Noah non-stop even though her fiance Lon is waiting.....

Allie decides to take a few days off to go and visit Noah and see how he is. He is stunned by her visit and his love for her becomes immediately rekindled.

He has never stopped "WANTING" her and the universe has now summoned the resources to connect the two of them again. This is the Law of Attraction in Action...what one thinks about and feels about, gets brought about.

They spend time in the house that Noah has renovated, doing exactly what he had agreed to do several years ago, the white house with blue trim and a porch around the whole house and a room for Allie to do her painting. It is the same house that they first made love in years previous. And they talk and reminisce about old times and how they really loved each other back then....Noah invites Allie to go for a boat ride the next day and while they are rowing it starts to pour rain. They end up in gales of laughter and the old love between them comes blazing back into both of their hearts.

At the end of the boat ride, Allie confronts Noah and asks "Why didn't you write" and Noah tells her he wrote 365 letters, one a day for a year, which has Allie confused because she did not receive them. It also rekindles her love for him like never before.

They make mad passionate love and all of the old feelings flood back to both of them. Allie then confronts her mother about the missing letters and her mother gives them all to her. And at a dramatic moment the key question arrives from Noah to Allie, he say in anger "Stop thinking about what everyone else wants" Noah yells "what do you want?? What do you want?"

Allie realizes that she has to make a choice between Noah or Lon...

The universe found a way to reconnect both of them in order to manifest this love that both have yearned for for so long.

Allie, of course, chooses Noah and the story rushes forward to near the end of their lives when Allie has alzheimers disease and Noah is staying in the hospital where Allie is and together they transition to the other side on screen.

One scene the commentator has Noah saying "I am just an ordinary man and I have done one thing well, I have loved a woman with all of my heart and soul." As an older man Noah says to Allie when she is feeling lost... "Nothing is ever lost or can be lost"

A lovely movie of the Law of Attraction in action.

5 Highest Grossing Films of All Time

Have you ever wondered what were the top grossing films in the world? When a film reaches the heights of popularity, it can easily earn more than a billion dollars. The following is a list of the top earning films.

1. Avatar (2009) Directed by James Cameron, the hugely successful film continues to break box office records, approaching $700 million domestically and showing little signs of slowing. The film has yet to be released on DVD, which will add considerably to its grosses. The storyline was on one Cameron spent many years writing and reworking, and it also introduced a new technology to the cinema, being released in 3-D and incorporating heavy use of animation.

2. Titanic (1997) This, of course, is another film directed by James Cameron that did extremely well internationally, and made enormous profit, in spite of the fact that it was the most expensive film ever made at the time. Worldwide box office grosses reached $1.8 billion.

3. The Dark Knight (2008) Directed by Chris Nolan, this film from the Batman franchise rose above expectations, becoming a hit with both critics and audiences. Box office receipts reached over a billion dollars. Mr. Nolan has now become the go-to man for action adventure films and is currently consulting the studios for other films in this genre, including the new "Superman" reboot.

4. Star Wars (1977) Long considered the most successful and influential film of all time, it took twenty years for George Lucas's famous space opera to get knocked out of the top position as the most widely seen film of all time.

5. Shrek 2 (2004) The only animated film to be in the top five, this entry featured the voices of big names like Mike Meyers and Eddie Murphy. Much more successful than its predecessor, this sequel made close to one billion dollars in worldwide box office receipts.

Since the top spot in this list happened very recently, we can see that the list of the most popular films in the world will continue to shift over time.

Movie Making is For the Patient

My brother is in the film industry, I have gone on set before and enjoy watching the process, but not for too long! No where does time cease to exist like it does on a movie set. The same scene is set up over and over, acted and reacted with no change as far as I can see. Shoot one minute, stop, wait 30 minutes, stop, shoot one minute, stop. All day long, over and over. I would never have the patience to be a director.

If I were a director, I would shoot twice and say, "that's just fine, move along, no one will notice anyway." Tiny little details are shot over and over. They may shoot for days for a segment lasting only a minute or two. Attention to details is a must. Are the cavemen wearing watches? Is the loin cloth the same color and position and length as it was yesterday? Is the scar on the same side of the face, in the same hues? Attention, attention, attention to the minute and the minutia.

I happened to be on the set recently when they were filming "John Adams" the mini series. I was by an actor whose job it was to push a wheel barrow full of vegetables around a corner in the very back of the scene. Hours and hours he waited for his cue, he would push his wheel borrow around the corner walk about 20 steps, stop, wait and start over. He was so far back in the scene it wouldn't matter if he were wearing a dress but every detail was in place, every hair combed. His face would never see the light of day, yet there he was, happy and content to have any role at all. No wonder movies take so long to make at such outrageous budgets.

Upcoming movie industries from around the world are learning the art of movie making; Bollywood, Mexican movies, African movies, and the ever sad Chinese movies with all their beauty and tragedy. Each representing the culture differences of their countries, and more importantly if they want to compete on a global stage they are learning patience!

Celebrity Gossip - The Cost of Fame

Celebrities live a charmed life, or so we think. We read about their luxurious lifestyles in the celebrity gossip magazines. We look at their attractive partners, their sparkling jewelry and their posh houses. Many celeb gossip readers fancy living such a life in the lap of luxury. But do we think how they are missing out on the little things in life that make live livable? I mean, no celebrity can go out and hang around with friends when he becomes the darling of entertainment news columns. His private life practically ends there. He's then just a normal person trying to trick the paparazzi and protect whatever he can of his privacy.

There are two questions here. Do the celebrities really want the celebrity gossip sites to talk about every little aspect of their life? The answer is a yes and a no. They want the celeb gossip sites and other publications to talk about them because that gives them publicity and visibility. Being splashed all over tabloids and entertainment news portals have a strong impression on the celebrity's fan following. When the tabloids and magazines talk about them at length, the celebrity knows that he is interesting enough and popular enough to get people talking about him. When they see the paparazzi on their tails, they know they have achieved something important. It's like a yardstick to measure their success.

The answer is a no when we talk about celebrity gossip sites probing deep into their private lives. Celeb gossip sites beep date alerts even when a male celebrity is just hanging around with a celebrity of the opposite sex. The constant scrutiny and a life under the microscope of the paparazzi- that's what celebrities get as a byproduct of fame. They can't go shopping with their family, they can't sneak out with their partner for a quiet dinner, they can't even go to town partying! It's like whatever they may do, the entertainment portals and tabloids will write about them. Exaggeration is an essential enemy here! There are very few publications which actually authenticate a news story about a celebrity before going viral with it.

The second question is: do the celebrity gossip sites help the celebrity? This answer is an emphatic yes! Celebrities use the celeb gossip sites to promote their movies and music. They court journalists who write for these entertainment portals to get favorable movie reviews and music reviews. They like to answer tons of inane questions about their life and lifestyle to please the yellow journalists. They deliberately plant the paparazzi at their favorite haunts so they can be clicked. They know they can't stop the news stories to trickle out, so they make sure that they use these sites and portals as vehicles and media to further their cause.

So the next time you find a celebrity lambasting a celebrity gossip site or threatening to sue an entertainment portal, be sure that he will do a double flip when it comes to using these celeb gossip site! It's all a case of mutual understanding and existence. And as long as no one is seriously complaining, their honeymoon can go on a extended period!

Preview - Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge

Ajay Devgan's tryst with comedy continues with 'Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge' which would be the first release for the actor after his home production 'All the Best'. The film features some of the big names in the Indian film industry like Ajay Devgan, Konkona Sen Sharma and Paresh Rawal in lead roles. The film is also backed by Warner bros. who is producing the Bollywood extravaganza after Chandni Chowk to China.

The film promises to be a laugh riot and will give some relief to Bollywood in comedy segment where the quality movies are far and between. The film revolves around the life of its chief protagonist Puneet (played by Ajay Devgan) who is happily married to Munmun (played by Konkona Sen Sharma). Puneet is a writer by profession and lives in an apartment in Mumbai with his wife and son. He strives hard as a writer in Television world but now his dreams come true when he manages to write a film. This is the opportunity that he was waiting since his career began.

But as the Indian films have it, there is a twist in the tale with the arrival of a long lost uncle of Puneet named as Chachaji in his household and it is giving him the toughest time of his life. Now, a film starts to unravel in his home itself and he has to draft a happy ending to it. This is the most cumbersome task that he has taken in his entire life of thirty years.

Munmun (wife of Puneet) is a homely woman who is an interior designer by profession but traditional family values are rooted in her and she knows how to respect the elders and be a perfect host. Her ambitions and future plans for career doesn't come in her way of attending family and guests, albeit she enjoys the affair thoroughly. She enjoys the different shades of womanhood as she plays a perfect host to Chachaji. It is only later when Chachaji's stay becomes prolonged and unbearable she feels drained and asks Puneet to get rid of him. What happens next is a laugh riot exclaims the director of the movie.

Inviting and serving a guest is a customary Indian phenomenon and is taken by pride amongst Indians at large. They feel elated while serving their guests as it has been said quite often that a guest is equivalent to God (age old saying- Atithi Devo Bhava). With the advent of globalization in modern times the concept has found new meanings and adaptations. There are more and more people who throng to their relatives in cities and pose a problem in their short and cash strapped family. Initially they are welcomed but it is their extended stay that causes problem in an otherwise happy situation. The director of the film has stressed out this point in various promotional events.

It is best left to the Indian viewers that whether this experiment with traditional Indian values will reap rich dividends or will it be discarded by audiences as it appears to be opposing the age old Indian culture. This is a question that only audience can answer and it should be left to them only.

Hugh Laurie - Britain's Gregory House Actor is the Unlikely King of World TV Drama

Hugh Laurie's impact on US television is unmatched by any other talented Brit who decided to cross the Atlantic in the pursuit of fame on the American small screen. It is all the more remarkable that the star of the House medical drama series, who is now 50, should have risked leaving behind a successful career in London in 2004 to play the grumpy genius Dr Gregory House.

As a comic actor Laurie had almost cornered the market in upper-class buffoons playing them in various roles in the Blackadder series and Bertie Wooster to Stephen Fry's Jeeves.

The gamble has paid off so handsomely that Laurie is into his sixth series of House and rumoured to be earning $400,000 an episode. Already into over 120 episodes -- with many more planned -- and shown in around 70 countries, Laurie is judged to be the biggest TV star in the world.

Laurie adopts an authentic American accent unlike most other British actors when appearing in a US series. Like Alex Kingston in ER, they play Brits or have indeterminate accents -- Patrick Stewart (French in Star Trek), Edward Woodward (The Equalizer), and Ian McShane (Deadwood). Dynasty stars Joan Collins and Stephanie Beecham were not called upon to show their mastery of accents.

The same cannot be said for Frasier's Daphne Moon. Jane Leeves was supposed to be from Manchester but her accent wasn't much further adrift than Dick Van Dyke's cockney in Mary Poppins. Neither Michelle Ryan (Bionic Woman) nor Anna Friel (Pushing Daisies) would have won prizes for their attempts on American tones.

The Office was successfully adapted for US screens but some British comedy shows -- Benny Hill, Monty Python, and Mr Bean -- have to be viewed in the eccentric original.

As for personalities that have duplicated their success in the US, Americans have to take the rough with the smooth -- Simon Cowell (American Idol) and Cat Deeley (So you think you can dance).

Television Versus Books

The place of books in society is now becoming less and less prevalent. In years gone by, it was feared that radio could be the end of books then it was considered that television would mean kids no longer read anything and finally the internet has come along and books have had a further decrease in popularity. While books are still being read, their popularity continues to dwindle and new reading devices like the iPod and Kindle threaten to further damage the numbers of people who like to read books, keeping them in shelving in their rooms. While many think that the replacement of books with electronic products will mean more readers, ultimately it will damage the attention spans of an already media-saturated public and lessen the number of people who are reading substantial, interesting works of fiction and non-fiction. In this day and age, the number of people with wire shelving filled with books is at an all time low.

The number of Americans who read books is staggeringly low and the number who choose to read difficult books is even less than that. In this modern age, we have been encouraged to believe that everything that feels good is good, and if something is challenging or difficult, this should be rejected. The effect of this in the short term is that we are having much more fun, but in the mid to long-term, we become dependent on these thrills and see them as all there is to life, instead of the deeper challenges that are out there on offer.

This can mainly be blamed on television, which has driven people away from the mental effort required from books, in imaging the characters and the things they do. Even radio required a part of the imagination to consider how the people look and act, and how the sound effects would look. Today in most television shows, the goal is to leave as little as possible to the imagination of the view. It is not only in terms of the visual aspects but in the area of character development. For a film or show to be successful, characters must be easily defined as good or bad, and only make alterations to their character that can be easily understood by the viewer.

The problem with this is that it creates a false representation of life. When we see every day that there are characters on shows easily definable as good and bad, we begin to believe this is the way life is, and forget that everyone at their heart has good intentions. If we're fooled by the TV shows, it is easy for us to be fooled by politicians telling us the world is full of terrorists waiting to kill us, and that we should support the good troops in their quest to battle these evil forces.

In order to understand the world in a more subtle way, it is probably worth looking past the superficial realities of television and exploring the deeper worlds of books. While some books are just as superficial as the worst television shows, it is well worth looking into quality writing that can go far deeper than any TV show would imagine.

Lighting Areas Other Than the Subject in the 3D World

Filmmakers and photographers often rely on bounced light to provide certain lighting effects when shooting a scene, especially when trying to simulate natural light. your 3D application is incapable of automatically reproducing bounced light without the addition of specialized radiosity rendering plug-ins. You can, however, simulate bounced light effects. The most common way to bounce light around is not to actually bounce it, but to exclude objects from receiving light from a light source.

For instance, to illuminate a back wall with a spotlight without directly affecting the objects in the scene, you exclude them from receiving the light. Then, to make it appear as if bounced light illuminated the object's backside, you use an Omni light that excludes the wall. So, you want to use several lights to simulate bounced light in an indirect lighting setup. Flashes are typically used to provide instant illumination for scenes in which the lighting is insufficient for the photograph. Because this is primarily a limitation of the film, it is not an effect that poses a problem for computer animators.

Sometimes, however, you might need to simulate a flash from a camera, strobe light, or lightning bolt. With your 3D application, you easily can simulate two common types of photography flashes-direct and umbrella- to produce various effects. A direct flash provides direct illumination from the camera itself. It is an aimed flash that casts light in front of the camera enough to illuminate what is in frame. Direct flashes produce a bright white or bluish light. Simulating a flash is fairly straightforward. The most common approach is to use a shadow-casting Omni light-a new feature for your 3D application. Set the light's color to pure white with a slight tint of blue and the multiplier to 5 or more.

You may also reduce the sample range slightly to produce more hard-edged shadows, but raytraced shadows are still probably too harsh for a flash. If you have a raytraced, reflective surface, you will need to use a spotlight instead of an Omni light, because the raytracer reflects the environment around the object. Using an Omni light, your entire scene will be lit by the flash-even behind the camera. The reflective surface will reflect the intensely illuminated objects behind the camera, resulting in overblown specular highlights.

Movie Reviews - Veronica Decides to Die

Movie Reviews this week looks at the romantic drama Veronica Decides to Die. This is a very well made drama, starring the lovely Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) as a young woman Veronica Deklava, in an excellent job, with a great family behind her, who simply decides she wants to commit suicide. She is tired of the route her life is going towards, and is expecting to continue in her job until she meets a man, they get married, later on he has an affair, they have an argument, she forgives him, it happens again, but this time she is too tired to bother to confront him about it - this is how she sees how her life will pan out.

She types a suicide letter for her parents, and takes an overdose of several pills, fortunately for her she doesn't die, but as expected is taken to a psychiatric treatment centre, paid for by her parents, which is headed by Dr. Blake played by David Thewlis (The Big Lebowski), who looks surprisingly similar to David Wenham, Dillios in 300.

When she comes round, Veronika is disappointed her attempt to commit suicide did not succeed, and is dreading having to see her parents and having to explain to them the possible reasons behind this suicide attempt; or indeed to deal with the world at large (she works at a bank that is well known in her local community, and an investigative journalist finds out she made the attempt and tracks her down to the treatment centre in order to make a scoop), when she still has the same feelings towards her existence.

Matters are further complicated when she is told the dosage of pills she has taken has caused her to have a heart attack, that resulted in an aneurysm that is getting bigger, and even though her suicide attempt failed, she doesn't have long to live, and there is no way of treating it.

Veronika begins to contemplate on what she would like to do seeing she has a very short time left. At first she is nonchalant on the idea of doing anything while she waits to die, until she meets a fellow psychiatric patient Edward played by Jonathan Tucker (The Black Donnellys), who Blake has been trying for some time to get him to communicate with the people around him (he simply does not talk, and seems to live in a dream world existence, watching nature, insects, and just spending time alone). Blake would consider this his crowning achievement if he can break through Edward's problem.

It turns out that Blake finds out Veronica used to play the piano when she was a child, and strategically places the piano in a place where she cannot miss it. One day she walks past it, possibly feeling bored, she at first tries out the keys of the piano with some random taps, then plays a lovely classical tune, which enchants Edward (who was listening nearby), she notices him watching her playing the piano, and the attraction builds (still with Edward not speaking a word).

As Veronica begins to fall for Edward, it then begins to dawn on her the enormity of what she is going to miss.

Veronica Decides to Die is a very interesting drama, and this movie has solid acting throughout.

Rent Online Movies and Save a Fortune

Have you thought about the option to rent online movies? You really should, because you will end up getting more movies for a lot less. And I don't simply mean the cost of the rentals alone. No, think about how much money you have spent in gas going to pick up movies. Movie night should be entertaining, but it shouldn't be expensive.

If I would go and calculate all of the movies rentals and gas together, it would probably be several thousand dollars, but that is estimated on the low side. I would, in all likelihood, shutter if I really knew how much we've spent.

And now that we rent online movies, I know exactly how much we'll spend each month. I don't have to do anything but drop it in the mailbox when we're done with it and within a day or so the next one is there, waiting to be enjoyed.

I wasn't sure at first how the whole experience would be, but I found a 14 day free trial and we decided to give it a try. Wow, I can't tell you how amazed I was, this was light years ahead of going to the video store! And we watched more movies in those two weeks than we would have normally rented in a month. Plus a one month subscription is about the same as renting two movies where we live. When I saw that I was sold.

No more extra trips to rent movies and then take them back, and no more waiting in line Friday evening fighting over the last copy or two of the new releases.

We have our list, and the new movies keep coming every couple of days. Sometimes, we have more movies to watch than we have time for. This is a much nicer feeling than saying, we have to watch a movie right now because it goes back to the store this afternoon.

And do you think I miss going to the store? Not a chance!

I wish I would have taken the chance and started renting movies online as soon as I had the option. But you know what they say about hindsight. We rent online movies now and that is what matters. Sure, we probably could have save hundreds if not thousands of dollars if we had started years ago but, live and learn.

Visit my website, who knows you might even find out how you can get a 14 day Blockbuster trial! Visit http://online-dvd-rental.blogly.net/.

Movie Review - Edge of Darkness (2010)

Mel Gibson's got a new movie out, called The Edge of Darkness. He plays a Boston police detective and is visited by his daughter who is shot on his front porch after she gets mysteriously sick and needs to go to the doctor.

To be honest, this movie made me yawn a few times. I went back and forth, trying to figure out if it was supposed to be a serious movie or some sort of joke. The fight scenes (the few offered) were quite comic bookish and the filming seemed strange. The problem, though, is the story just drug on and on.

I have always liked Mel Gibson movies. He is a legend with movies like Lethal Weapon 1, 2, 3, 4 and great films like Braveheart and The Passion. There is a reason why he is very popular around the world. But this newest movie just seemed to lack that realistic element most of his movies have, not to mention the usual pounding action that we've all come to love.

The Edge of Darkness, although filmed in 2010 and set during the same time, seems old and antiquated. Most of the time I thought I was watching some 1980's cop movie, instead of one more relevant.

With a terrible plot, terrible filming and even worse ending, I'm glad I didn't pay money to see this film. I feel robbed, just losing the two hours it took to struggle through it. You might consider foregoing this flick and maybe read a book or something.

Steven Veach has several books in print and a new thriller novel coming out in April 2010 called, The Preparation. You can find out more about Steven at http://www.stevenveach.net or order his books by clicking here.

Dragonball Kai - The Sequel to Dragonball Z

The Dragonball series of anime movies has enthralled people the world over with its brilliant characters, special effects, and amazing animation. Basically Dragonball Kai is a revised version of Dragonball Z and has been released to commemorate the latter's 20th anniversary. Telecasting of the same began from the 5th of April, 2009 on Fuji Television. The old episodes have been remastered using hi definition pictures.

This new episode also includes special effects and the sound tracks have been re-recorded using the same cast that was there in the original. For those who do not know, in the old days, animation movies were made by first drawing separate images of every sequence. These are known as cels. During production of Dragonball Kai, it was found that that the cels of the last episode (Dragonball Z) had been discarded.

They had last been shown in 1996. To make up for this loss of footage, digital tracing technology was used to make new frames and they were then filled up using softer colors. This procedure of digital tracing helped ensure that the original frames were not damaged. During the procedure a number of frames were cropped.

Also, a number of frames were added that feature new portions that have been added to the scenes that were drawn by hand in the same ratio as that of the picture. Quite a lot of material that was there in Dragonball Z have been removed hence reducing the count of the new episode to approximately 100 which is far less than the 291 episodes of the original.

The Danish World Famous Movie Star From the Era of the Silent Films - Asta Nielsen

Asta Nielsen (1881-1972) started on her road to fame and influence when she was accepted into the acting school of the Royal Danish Theatre at the age of 18. Twenty years old she gave birth to an illegitimate daughter, Jesta, and it's typical for her that this Number One "career-stopper" of women at that time did not stop her. Instead of hiding her child or putting her up for adoption she kept her and even had the audacity to keep her own Miss-title instead of attaining a fake Mrs-title.

When staying in hotels she signed the visitor's book as "Miss Nielsen and daughter". She married three times and her last, very late marriage was with a much younger man, Anders Christian Theede, who is reputed to have been an avid fan. So were her two prior husbands, the movie maker Urban Gad and Ferdinand Wingardh.

Many may have been shocked by such an affront to society and the double standard, but then she shocked the world with more than that. For instance, the reason why she is almost unknown in USA is the erotic explicitness in much of her acting. Her film were heavily censored by the Americans and it was in Europe she gained her fame. She made 74 films and of these 70 were made in Germany as the Germans took her to their heart as Die Asta (i.e. The Asta). In The year 1924 she was starring with a rising star, Greta Garbo, who eventually was to surpass her in fame, but not in acting skills. Actually, she did not find her performance very high class.

In the 1920s she had formed her own studio in Berlin, but with the rise of Nazism she made up her mind to return to Denmark even though the Nazi propaganda minister, Josef Goebbels, offered her many new opportunities in this new Germany of Nazis. Back in Denmark she did not obtain the position she wished for, maybe because she was known as "difficult" which in reality means that she set high standards and had her own ideas of film and film making. For instance, she stopped filming and only worked on stage when the movie industry had the new feature of sounds. She knew that that was not convergent with her acting style.

However, she may have had a rich life even after the German experience of becoming so very famous as she now started to write and to make collages. Also she did her best to help Jews in Germany by sending money and food parcels to concentration camp-prisoners. As to her writing it was primarily autobiographical and in "Den tiende muse" (1945-46) (i.e. "The Tenth Muse") she gives a most interesting portrait of herself, her career and the time of the silent movie.

Ava Gardner - Her Hollywood Career and Her Hollywood Husbands

Ava Gardner was one of Hollywood's most beautiful female stars; some would say the most beautiful of all. Her personal life was as fascinating as the plots of the movies she made and received as much public attention. She was married and divorced three times, and to three of Hollywood's top stars: Mickey Rooney, Artie Shaw, and Frank Sinatra. Sinatra privately admitted that he never got over losing her. In addition she had flings with rich and famous men, from Howard Hughes, owner of RKO studios, to Dominguin, the Spanish bullfighter.

The seventh and youngest child of poor tobacco farmers and a barefoot tomboy as a young girl, Gardner was invited for an interview at MGM on the grounds of her astonishingly good looks which a talent scout had noticed in a photographer's window in New York. She moved to Hollywood in 1941, where, after five years busy learning her trade in 'B' parts, in everything from unbilled bits to romantic leads in East Side Kids movies, she was perfect as Kitty Collins, the film noir temptress of 'The Killers' in 1946, leaving Burt Lancaster such a shell that he doesn't resist being assassinated.

Ava's tumultuous love life attracted as much public interest as her professional life on screen. Even before she was famous she had attracted the passionate attentions of one of the biggest stars in Hollywood at the time, Mickey Rooney, whom she had met in 1941, shortly after she arrived in LA. Rooney was the hero of MGM's Andy Hardy series and a major figure in Hollywood. Ava, the ingenue, was flattered by his attention and they married in January 1942. The marriage foundered after just 12 months due mainly to Rooney's determination to continue carousing with his bachelor friends instead of staying home with his lovely young wife.

Ava's second husband was band leader Artie Shaw, in 1945. Shaw married eight times in all, and Ava was wife number 6. He criticised and made fun of her lack of formal education, to the point of being abusive. Ava reacted badly and began to drink heavily. The marriage, unsurprisingly ended after just one year.

Ava's third and final attempt at marriage was to singer, actor, and future superstar, Frank Sinatra. When they began a relationship Sinatra was already married and Ava received heavy criticism for being a marriage wrecker. They married in 1951, just 72 hours after the legal ending of Sinatra's first marriage. Sinatra's career had hit a low and it was through Ava's influence that he landed the role of Maggio in 'From Here to Eternity' in 1953, for which he won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, and which stabilised his career. The marriage could not withstand Sinatra's jealous temperament and Ava's drinking and the couple separated in 1954 and divorced 3 years later. Sinatra never got over losing her.

She was now a Hollywood star, but she did not immediately get much interesting work; she was cast for her looks as a goddess in 'One Touch of Venus' in 1948 and her voice was dubbed among the chocolate box surroundings of 'Showboat' in 1951. In 'Pandora and the Flying Dutchman', also in 1951, she has her most rounded role, as a conflicted temptress who drives men to ruin but also yearns to join James Mason in the afterlife.

Gardner shimmers in 'The Barefoot Contessa' in 1954 as a star modeled on Rita Hayworth but channeling her own personal and career demons. She moved to Spain in 1955 following her tempestuous marriage and divorce from Sinatra, and many of her subsequent movies were made abroad. Her perspiring, fraying glamour fits well into the all-star worlds of 'The Sun Also Rises' in 1957, 'On the Beach' in 1959, and 'The Night of the Iguana' in 1964.

Wonderfully witch-like in the little-seen 'Tam Lin' in 1970, she also gamely shows up in 'Earthquake' in 1974 and 'The Cassandra Crossing' in 1976. In 1968 Ava moved to London and spent her final years almost as a recluse. She suffered a stroke in 1989 that left her bedridden, and her third husband Sinatra paid all her medical expenses. He hadn't forgotten her.

Ava suffered a second stroke which further limited her, and she died in London of pneumonia on January 25, 1990. She was 67.

Teens and Celebrity Gossip

Teenagers feel a definite pull toward celebrity gossip sites. Teenagers love to read about their favorite celebrities and it's taken for granted that people in this age bracket are more interested in celeb gossip than the others. The coming of online entertainment portals has ensured that teenagers have easy access to paparazzi scoops these days. They need not head for seedy bookstalls to buy tabloids or magazines anymore. They can log in to the internet and check up the latest, real-time updates on their favorite celebrities.

Celebrity gossip sites don't just update the teens about their favorite icons. Lots of teens look forward to the celeb gossip sites as learning experiences. Entertainment news sections are high on fashion. Teens that have a knack for fashionable clothes and accessories check out these pages to find out what the trends are. Teens have an eye for fashion and when they see their celebs wearing their clothes and accessories a particular way, they learn and emulate that in their own way. There is nothing wrong in being fashion conscious unless you let it control your life. Teens today know where to strike the balance.

Other than fashion, another area where celebrity gossip sites have a positive influence is one of inspiration. The icons who are elevated to the platform of being tagged teen icons are achievers. Celeb gossip sites write about them because they could attain what others couldn't. You have to give it to them for being good enough in their respective fields. They could hold the limelight firmly on themselves because they have the confidence, even if it is a little misplaced sometimes. The inspirational aspect works better if the icon is a self-made person. There's no harm in the desire to be famous and there must not be any judgmental issues on this.

Many critics may point out that celebrity gossip sites do more good than harm to the teens. They feel that teenagers are led astray when they find that their icons are living the carefree life. Celeb gossip sites keep mentioning their confrontations with the law, their drunken brawls, their illegitimate affairs, their pregnancies and abortions. But I feel it's a case of point of view. It's how you see it. If you are a sensible teenager, you will look upon this entertainment news trivia as something that you must not do, rather than something you try to emulate. You always have the right to pick what you want to do and what you want to discard. The question of following paparazzi updates is the same.

Love it or hate it, you cannot ignore celebrity gossip anymore. It has made pores in all strata of society. Teens are most likely to be influence by celeb gossip because they are naturally inclined towards the rich and the famous. If you are a concerned parent, you might want to regulate their partaking of entertainment news. But if you decide to abolish it altogether, you might be pulling yourself for some trouble. It's not easy to keep the glittering world of glamour far away from impressionistic teens!

Jeebas Entertainment Blog has everything that you might want to read about celebrity gossip or Hollywood rumors. Jeebas redefines what you took to be celeb gossip and entertainment news. The paparazzi scoops on this blog are as close to real time as possible.

Indian Film Industry - Myths Vs Reality

Bollywood, probably the most glamorous of all different wings of the Indian Film Industry has developed from an entity of entertainment to actually a full fledged industry of its own. Known for catering to the best of talent in its field and probably with one of the best pools of artists, the industry has grown from strength to strength. The industry has stood the test of time and is more glamorous than ever, attracting talent from across the nation and in recent years, from abroad too. However as with any other industry there are certain myths attached to the overall structure and image of the industry. Mentioned henceforth are some of the myths attached to the industry that stand on loose ground with little or no proof to substantiate them.

Bollywood has no obscenity - Wrong. Totally flawed! It's a misnomer to be associated with the industry. Pick up a movie of Raj Kapoor. I would say that obscenity has been part and parcel of Bollywood almost since its inception days. If more such proof is needed just 'Google' the term and truth shall unfold itself. It's a fact though that the level of obscenity is not as frequent as in other film industries but that's a crucial factor determined by the type of audience that moves to theaters for entertainment.

The Duplicity Factor - Though it's a fact that actually many of Bollywood scripts are inspired by foreign films, the fact to take note of is that there is hardly any production industry in the world that does not indulge in Plagiarism at some level or the other. In fact quite a few Hollywood movies are inspired by Russian or Korean flicks. So in essence they all are the same. One good fact though is that the industry has always been honest enough to acknowledge the fact that the script or some other section has been copied. Hats off to the artists and the professionals involved at various levels.

It's biased in favor of men - Well to a large extent it may seem right in letter and spirit but nevertheless there have been sparks of brilliance by the fairer sex too. Farah Khan being an example! Its actually a fact that the industry is run by men but as a matter of fact there is something more than just that to back the statement up. Over the years the trend has been changing and is set to continue in favor of women. I guess the times ahead are the best judge of this orgy.

Its easier here than Hollywood - This is one aspect that most out bound people may be inclined to think but the ground reality is quite different. Making it big in the Indian Movie Industry if not tougher is as tough as any area of expertise in Hollywood. Just like Hollywood many Indian teenagers line up towards the industry motivated by the glamour factor and bright prospects.

Review - My Name is Khan (2010) Movie

It has some scenes, especially one involving a child's death that will bruise you. Yet despite all this, My Name is Khan never becomes the empowering, inspiring Forest Gump-like epic. Mainly because the connective tissue tying it together is deeply flawed and in places, embarrassingly naive.

Khan is the story of Rizwan Khan, played by Shah Rukh, who has Asperger's syndrome. This milder form of autism impairs Rizwan's social communication skills and gives him some decidedly odd behavior patterns - he can't stand loud sounds or the colour yellow.

He rotates stones obsessively and can barely bring himself to hug someone. Rizwan is far from crazy but he definitely moves to the beat of a different drummer. Despite this he finds love and a family with Mandira, played by Kajol.

But post 9/11, their happy home falls apart and Rizwan embarks on a grand odyssey across America so that he can tell the American president that his name is Khan but he is not a terrorist.

My Name is Khan is on firm footing as long as director Karan Johar stays with emotional drama. He opens the film skillfully with airport security searching Rizwan and then moves into flashback.

The scenes of Rizwan's childhood are some of the strongest in the film. Zarina Wahab returns after years to give a lovely, nuanced performance as Rizwan's mother. But the film's delicate rhythm wobbles when we shift to San Francisco and into love story mode.

The first shaky sign is the entry of Navneet Nishan who seems like she has stepped in from some other, louder film.

The romance between Rizwan and Mandira is too designed and mawkish.

Kajol, struggling with a thin character, mostly veers between being hyper and cute.

Still, Karan, working with an ace technical team including cinematographer Ravi K Chandran and editor Deepa Bhatia, crafts some beautiful images and poignant sequences but the film loses balance irreparably as it moves into political mode.

The second half scrambles madly both literally and figuratively. Rizwan, obviously superman in another life, manages to shout down a hate-mongering Muslim doctor, have him arrested by the FBI, get arrested himself and in a ridiculous pre-climactic sequence, save the citizens of a small town when floods hit New Orleans.

Writer Shibani Bhatija squeezes in so much that by the end of two hours and forty minutes, even if Rizwan isn't exhausted, you are.

Rizwan is undeniably the best thing about My Name is Khan. Shah Rukh's performance has little subtlety about it - for that watch Hugh Dancy doing Asperger's in Adam - but it is heartfelt, endearing and more controlled than anything he's ever done before. Watch him in a lovely scene in which Kajol accepts his proposal or how he restrains his tears so that his eyes brim but never well over.

I recommend that you see Khan for him. The film itself is too uneven to give us the emotional high we were waiting for.

Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Jimmy Shergill, Zarina Wahab.
Music: Shanka, Ehsaan, Loy
Director: Karan Johar
Producer: Gauri Khan/Hiroo Johar
Writer: Karan Johar/Shibani Bathija
