Iron Man 2 Movie Review - Is it Any Good?

Tony stark is back, and this is the review you have been waiting for. The world now knows that Tony Stark is the metal costumed superhero crime fighter. The government want the suits technology however tony constantly tells them that he can't have it. The government are not the only ones that are after the Iron Man though. Bad guys played by Sam Rockwell and Mickey Rourke are soon on the case wanting to shelve Iron Man for good.

Sequels of movie franchises are seldom the best and often fizzle or bang for all the wrong reasons. Fans of the first movie or comic book to movie fans can rest assured however as Iron Man 2 is much better than the original. There is something in this movie for everyone. There's action and plenty of it, just as you would expect from a superhero movie. The comedy levels are amped up this time around with Robert Downey Jr being allowed to flex his charisma and charm at every turn. There is also a lot more eye candy this time around, with the introduction of Scarlett Johansson, need I say any more?

Iron Man 2 is one of the better superhero movies to have it our screens, however it is still going to be compared to the Dark knight and sadly Iron Man 2 can't compete with the dark and brooding superhero from Gotham, however in my opinion they can't be compared as they are two completely different types of movies. The Dark Knight is more of a serious superhero movie where as Iron Man 2 is a more family friendly movie experience.

If you are a comic book fan or a fan of the first movie then you are going to watch this movie, it doesn't matter what I say to you, however if you are unaware of the first movie or never fancied watching it before then I urge you to check out the first movie, once you have done so get your butt down to your local cinema, get the biggest bag of popcorn that money can buy and sit back and enjoy the show.

Iron Man 2 gets a solid 4 out of 5 stars and I am really looking forward to the third in the series.

Big Daddy Movie Review

I have yet to watch a movie starring Adam Sandler that I haven't enjoyed, having said that I don't think this film is his best work but it's still funny to say the least.

The movie follows a 30 something law graduate, Sonny Koufax, that has turned into a couch potato after winning a $200,000 settlement a year before when a taxi had run over his foot. Fed up of his laziness his girlfriend decides she has had enough and leaves him. Sonny's roommate Kevin leaves for China and right away a young boy shows up claiming to be Kevin's son. Sonny (Sandler) takes care of him for a day and has a good time, Sonny decides to adopt him in the hope of impressing is Ex Girlfriend in a last desperate attempt to save their relationship. Sonny then learns that is Ex Girlfriend had been cheating on him with an older man who is more responsible and even has a '5 year' plan.

Needless to say Sonny is not a good father but once he finds out his kid is the 'smelly' kid in the class he tries harder and bonds with the kid a lot more. This film also has some touching scenes between Sonny and the kid.

Knowing this film stars Adam Sandler we were expecting some laughs, but we weren't expecting some of the touching scenes throughout the movie. I highly recommend Big Daddy and award this movie with 3 and a half stars out of 5.

Borat Movie Review

Borat Sagdiyev (Cohen) a television presenter who will be called just Borat for the rest of this review due to the second part of his name sets of on a journey to America with his producer Azamat (Davitian) to learn the cultural differences between his home country of Kazakhstan and the USA. Along the way however Borat sees a rerun of an old TV series (Baywatch) and decides he wants to marry Pamela Anderson.

Cohen who is more famous for his other character 'Ali G' slips into this role so good that you forget it's an actual actor playing the role rather than a very racist but funny news reporter from Kazakhstan. Borat unleashes his ignorance on many unsuspecting people including a group of women who Borat calls 'pussycats' and even laughs in front of them when its suggested that men and women are equal.

Although watching this kind of ignorance should be wrong I couldn't help but laugh all through this movie. Borat will offend many people from many different backgrounds which become equally as funny but also make it hard to watch sometimes as you fear Borat maybe lynched for his antics. Some of the movie is let down by the 'real' acting parts though and most of the parts with Pamela Anderson should have been left out and just continued with the documentary type approach.

The above was just a little inconvenience with the move though and was a very good comedy from Cohen. I award Borat with 4 stars out of 5 and look forward to future work from Cohen.

Movie Review of Red Cliff - Original International Version - Part 2

Setting: Ancient China

Rating: 5 stars

Movie lovers enthralled by the first part of the Red Cliff saga will be thoroughly rewarded for watching Red Cliff Part 2. John Woo and his excellent cast starring Takeshi Kaneshiro, Tony Leung, and Zhung Fengyi create an epic worthy of grossing over $100 million in the Asian market. With great special effects that recreate colossal naval battles and a sparkling script full of intelligence and subtlety, Red Cliff Part 2 entertains during every moment.

The story picks up exactly where Part 1 left off. The imperial forces of the Han Dynasty as led by Cao Cao (Zhang Fengyi) have descended upon the fortress at Red Cliff where the Grand Viceroy Zhou Yu (Tony Leung) of the Eastern Wu Kingdom is holed up with his allies led by Liu Bei. The master strategist of Liu Bei, Zhuge Liang (Takeshi Kaneshiro) is working with Zhou Yu to craft plans to thwart the overwhelming invasion of Cao Cao.

Red Cliff Part 2 presents a wonderfully conceived dramatization of many principles explained in the classic Art of War by Sun Tzu. The character Zhuge continues to reveal his sharp intellect and far-ranging knowledge as he counters Cao Cao on many levels both physical and psychological. Zhuge uses weather to his advantage and takes a big gamble on the likelihood of shifting winds when a big naval battle begins. His ploys and cunning use of fire are truly artful as he makes war.

The struggle also emphasizes the critical roles of spies in waging war. Spies lend many advantages to the allies as the confrontation unfolds, both by gathering information about Cao Cao's camp and feeding him disinformation that undermines his trust in crucial commanders. Another elaborate ploy is achieved when Zhou Yu's wife, who is greatly coveted by Cao Cao, surrenders herself to Cao Cao. She hopes to prevent the battle by giving herself to him, but her goal is far more devious. No war that has already marshaled so many resources is going to be stopped by one woman, but she does significantly distract Cao Cao when he should be paying attention to his battle.

Red Cliff Part 2 rewards movie lovers with an intelligent action adventure that uses special effects but does not rely on them. The script and the actors are the strengths that empower this wonderful movie inspired by Chinese history and culture. Numerous plot twists and elaborate battle scenes constantly propel this movie that was a delight to experience.

As a fantasy writer, movies like Red Cliff stimulate my imagination. To enter an enticing world of magic and epic battle, read The Rys Chronicles fantasy series available at http://www.braveluck.com.
