Lost TV Series - Season 2 Review

The end of season one of Lost left us looking into the interior of the hatch which had been blown open with the use of some explosives which had been found inside a wrecked ship on the island. It turns out that inside the hatch is a research station which has electricity and running water. It also has plenty of food stocked within it and an occupant called Desmond. According to Desmond the world will end if a sequence of numbers isn't typed into the 1970's era computer every 108 minutes. The problem is that the computer has been damaged during the attempt to access the station. It turns out though that Sayid also has some computer skills and fixes the computer just in time, but not before Desmond does a runner. The number sequence incidentally is 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, and 42

There is some debate as to whether or not Desmond is telling the truth about the consequences of not entering the numbers into the now fixed computer. However, the group decide to err on the side of caution and setup shifts so that the timetable can be kept.

The group do a bit of research inside the station and find some video instruction manuals which reveal that a group called the Dharma Initiative have set up a network of stations on the island. The one they are currently in is called the Swan Station.

While on a foray to try and find Vincent, Walt's dog, Shannon comes across Walt but he is soaking wet and appears to be speaking backwards. Something else disconcerting about this encounter is that Walt appears to blink in and out of existence. Shannon thinks that something has happened to the guys that left of the raft and her fears worsen when she along with Claire come across the bottle of messages that was supposed to have been delivered by Sawyer, Walt, Jin and Michael to the mainland on the raft, washed up on the beach.

After the attack on the four survivors on the raft and the subsequent abduction of Walt and the disappearance of Jin, Michael and Sawyer construct another raft from the wreckage. The current carries them back to the island where they find Jin and another group of survivors. This group, led by Ana Lucia were in the tail section of the aircraft which crashed on a different part of the island. Other survivors introduced at this point are Mr. Eko and Libby.

After initially distrusting the newcomers and wanting to hold them captive, Ana Lucia agrees to travel to the other side of the island where the two main groups of survivors are now reunited.

Shannon and Sayid are starting to become something of an item and Shannon confides in Sayid, asking for his help, after revealing the visions of Walt she has been having. As Sayid and Shannon admit their love for each other Walt appears again, talking backwards. Shannon chases him into the jungle but startles an unprepared Ana Lucia who mistakes Shannon for one of The Others and shoots her dead. At this point we learn a little more about the experiences of the tail section survivors and the fact that 12 of their number have been abducted by The Others. Ana Lucia feels guilty about killing Shannon and although heartbroken at her loss, Sayid eventually comes to accept that it wasn't her fault. This though leads to him developing a hatred of The Others.

Claire has to come to a decision about Charlie. He has been getting more and more paranoid about his need to protect Claire's baby, so much so that he actually endangers his life at one point. Charlie eventually backs off and takes Mr Eko to see the Beechcraft and starts to grieve over the death of his brother who it turns out dies on that very plane. This inspires Mr Eko to believe in the power of the island so he begins to build a church on the island in order to repay his debt to Yemi.

Claire is forced to explore one of the other Dharma stations call the Staff in search of medicine when her baby falls ill. During her search she find out that one of The Others known as Tom wears a false beard. Why would they need to hide their identities?

A man identifying himself as Henry Gale from Minnesota apparently crashes on the island after being blown there in a balloon. He is captured by Rousseau and the group have doubts about his story, particularly Sayid, who still grieving for Shannon, tortures him while he is held captive in a small room inside The Swan.

During Locke's shift at the computer he fails to enter the number in time and the station goes into lockdown mode. Only Henry Gale is able to get to the computer through the air vents and Locke instructs him to enter the code. As the countdown gets down to zero a blast door reveals the arrangement of stations on the island. Just as Locke starts to read the diagram, everything returns to normal in the station even though Gale says he never got to enter the code. It turns out though that Sayid was right and Gale isn't who he says he is and admits to being one of The Others. This whole event though makes Locke doubt his faith in the island.

Eko and Locke discover a station called The Pearl station which seems to have been designed to monitor ongoings in all the other stations. Locke hypothesises that the whole thing about entering code numbers into the computer in The Swan station is a psychological experiment. Mr Eko though only redoubles his faith and is even more sure that entering the numbers is the right thing to do.

Meanwhile, Michael is on a mission to find his son, Walt. He uses The Swan's computer to communicate with Walt and decides to go and find him but he is captured by The Others. When he is brought to what looks like The Others camp, a collection of huts, Michael is allowed three minutes to spend some time with Walt. Michael strikes a deal with The Others, but the price is quite high. Michael is released with instructions to go back to the camp and release Henry Gale. On top of this he has to persuade Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Hurley to go back to The Others camp at which point Walt will be released. Michael thinks that he will never get the group to agree to The Others' terms and so sets about a plan of his own. He kills Ana Lucia and Libby and frees Henry Gale. He then shoots himself in the shoulder to make it look like Gale had escaped by himself. As the group hold a memorial for the two dead women, Desmond returns in a sailboat.

Michael puts together the next phase of his plan. Michael tells Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Hurley that he wants to raid The Others' camp to rescue Walt and that he needs their help. Sayid isn't convinced that Michael is being straight with them though and thinks that he is leading them into a trap. His plan consists of using Desmond's sail boat to approach the camp from the seaward side. He gets Sun to translate for him and enlists the help of Jin as he knows how to sail. Although it has been revealed that Jin is infertile it has also been revealed that Sun is pregnant.

Even though Jack is aware of Michael's plan, The Others are still successful in capturing him, Kate, Sawyer and Hurley. Henry Gale reveals himself to be the leader of The Others and keep his end of the bargain, allowing Michael and Walt to leave by boat. Hurley is told to go back to the survivors' camp and tell them that they are never to return there.

Meanwhile, Sayid, Sun and Jin arrive at The Others camp and find it abandoned. They start a signal fire and sit and wait for Jack's party to arrive.

Locke decides he wants to experiment with The Swan's computer and the process of entering the numbers. He drafts in the help of Desmond and they both relieve Mr Eko. However, Desmond suddenly realises that the last time the code wasn't entered in time was the day of the plane crash. The two argue over whether or not the threat is real but the counter reaches zero and a huge magnetic field is created. It seems this must have been the cause of the crash. Desmond reveals that there is a system termination station under the floor and leads the way to it. He activates the station by turning a key. The island is then engulfed in a bright white light and deluged with a loud shrill sound.

Right at the end of Lost Season 2 our point of view changes to that of a polar research station. Two men notice something on their instruments and proceed to phone Penelope, who turns out to be Desmond's old fiance that they have found the anomaly.

Movie Shutter Island - Beware! Martin Scorsese Thriller

Shutter Island will keep you mesmerized throughout the film. It is a taunt, twisting thriller that keeps you guessing with the characters. What is going on? Leonardo DiCaprio, Sir Ben Kingsley, and Max von Sydow give gripping performances, filled with menace and intensity.

The movie is based on a novel written by Dennis Lehane, who wrote Gone Baby Gone. The novel was adapted for the screen by Laeta Kalogridis, of the Pathfinder fame. The direction chores are ably handled by c, the Oscar winning director of The Departed. Shutter Island would be a less spell binding thriller under a lesser director. Martin Scorsese assembled an immensely talented cast and inflicted excellent performances from each. The taunt edge of your seat pacing drives the story, what is going to happen next. The scene selection must of been tough but, the editing was top notch.

The story begins in 1954 with U.S. Marshall Teddy Daniels, Leonardo DiCaprio (The Departed) and his new partner Chuck Aule, Mark Ruffalo (What Doesn't Kill You) going to Shutter Island, a famous insane asylum for the worst of the worst. They have been sent to investigate the escape by a woman who drowned her three children and disappeared into thin air. The island is only approachable by one pier that leads to the only gate and the rest of the island is dominated by sheer cliffs. The insane asylum is really bizarre and gives them both the creeps.

They meet Dr. Cawley, Sir Ben Kingsley (War,Inc.) and are allowed to investigate, with supervision, the crime scene. Both Teddy and Chuck discover that everything is not as it seems. The woman escaped from a small room with barred windows and locked from the outside. She had to had help. That evening they are invited to dinner at Dr. Cawley's and meet the other doctor in charge, Dr. Naehring, Max Von Sydow, (The Tudors) and start believing there is a cover up. The doctors won't release the patient or employee files to them, and one doctor has already left the island.

A hurricane is bearing down on the island, communication to the mainland is cut off and the ferry that brought them is not running. The back story on Teddy now begins to appear. He is an alcoholic that has bizarre nightmares about his wife, Dolores, who died in an apartment fire. The nightmares continue to haunt him throughout the movie. The doctors, patients and staff seem to be hiding the truth, there is something going on at the asylum, in fact one patient writes down "run" in his notebook. He suspects that Dr. Cawley is misdirecting him and Dr. Naehring is a Nazi war criminal up to no good.

He seems to be thwarted in his efforts to visit all the wards. The hurricane becomes worse and the inmates from the worst ward have escaped. Teddy and Chuck now have their opportunity to slip in and see for themselves. Teddy and Chuck become separated and Teddy finds an informant that tells him about the asylum and that nefarious brain surgeries are going on at the lighthouse on the end of the island. He and Chuck go to investigate the lighthouse and Chuck balks at climbing down the cliffs. Teddy never makes it because of the storm and on his way back he sees Chuck's body on the rocks below and he is horrified. He also discovers a cave where the escaped woman is hiding. She tells him about the asylum and the experiments going on out at the lighthouse and that he is in grave danger. He in fact is being drugged and she shows him the evidence. She won't leave with him because she says he won't make off the island.

The next day Teddy is determined to get to the lighthouse. He blows up Dr. Cawley's car as a diversion and heads for the lighthouse. He swims out to the lighthouse and knocks out the guard and begins to ascend the stairs. Up, up he goes checking the rooms finding nothing until the very last room at the top. You will never believe what he finds. The climax is very clever and wholly unsuspected. This is a powerfully written and acted scene that will amaze you.

The authors have created a suspenseful and dynamic movie. Martin Scorsese's deft touch at the controls delivers a tense, rocket ride full of action and drama. Leonardo DiCaprio shows us why his star is always on the rise with his intense performance. Sir Ben Kingsley and Max von Sydow are both excellent at delivering mystery and menace in their portrayals of the sinister doctors. Mark Ruffalo excels and delivers a fine performance.

The movie Shutter Island is immensely entertaining and you are so involved in the story that the it is over before you can draw a slow breath. Well written and crafted with excellent performances, Shutter Island is a must see movie. You will even forget you have popcorn and a soda until the end.

The Movie "The Horse Whisperer" And The Law Of Attraction

My first experiences of "Source Energy," this energy that is filled with joy and love and a knowing that we are but a part of this magnificent unfolding of life on earth is how I feel when I am in nature... nature is pure Source energy, one cannot be in nature without feeling this awe of the miracle of every flower and mountain and river and ocean.

The Horse Whisperer is a magnificent film in many ways and one profound way is the experience one receives in watching the beauty of nature unfold, the rivers and the mountains and the glory of it all is here to behold.

Annie (Kristen Scott Thomas) is the editor of "Cover" magazine, a glamorous New York magazine. She is hardnosed and quick to impatience and irritability. And basically this is a story of one woman's determination and inspired action to save her daughter and ultimately herself.

Grace (Scarlett Johanssen) is the daughter of Annie and Robert (Sam Neil). Grace is passionate about horses especially her very own, named Pilgrim. When her friend Judith and herself go out for an early morning ride one day, it ends in a tragic accident causing Judith's death and Graces losing one of her legs. Pilgrim is terribly injured and it is recommended that he be put down. Annie feeling in her gut that this is not the right thing to do says "no" to this decision.

Pilgrim is a changed horse, not only badly injured but also deeply traumatized... and this gets acted out in erratic and explosive behaviour.

Grace gets out of the hospital and is deeply discouraged and despairing about her changed life circumstances. When she first sees Pilgrim after the accident, she becomes even more discouraged and alarmed at how her beloved horse is suffering and has changed. She sees the deep trauma in his eyes.

Annie's world gets turned upside down, because of her worry about how Grace is going to recover from this accident... and so Annie begins the search for help. She has a deep knowing that if Grace stays in New York, where she now goes to school that she will become more and more depressed... Annie's desire for her daughters restoration to wellness gets ignited in a powerful way. In her search on the internet for help she comes across the work of horse healer, Tom Booker (Robert Redford), who lives in Montana. She calls him and says... "I read this article about what you do for people with horse problems" she says and he responds "the truth is I help horses with people problems." This conversation that ends with Tom saying he cannot help her, motivates Annie to take inspired action and bring Grace and Pilgrim out to Montana to see Mr. Tom Booker. She has a deep knowing that this will be healing for them.

In a discussion with her husband, her anger and her frustration is fully shown, as she bangs on the table and says "I cannot explain it, I just know it is the right thing."

And so Annie loads up the horse trailer with Pilgrim and a hostile and reluctant Grace and they head out to Montana. In a moment of truth between Annie and Grace, while on the road... Grace who is accusing her mother of acting selfishly and saying that this trip is all about her and nothing more... Annie yells... "I don't know... I don't have all the answers" And Grace replies " no, you just act like you do..."

The healing in this story begins as soon as one sees the scenery that Annie and Grace are driving through... it is stunningly beautiful...

Annie finds Tom Booker at last and he is stunned that she has driven a traumatized horse all the way out to Montana from New York... he lets her know that this trip is likely a waste of time and Annie in her KNOWING say "listen please don't do the shucks mam thing again, I have just driven a few thousand miles for a few minutes of your time... just take a look at him and if you still feel the same way I will be on the road in the morning and you will never hear from me again... OK deal?... Tom Booker is says..."Gee" as we can tell he agrees to do as he is asked.

Question for Grace "I do not know if I can do anything and I am prepared to give it a go if you will help... do have a problem with that... Grace scowls, looks at her amputated leg and says "isn't it obvious" and Tom says "not to me it isn't." At last Grace agrees to cooperate and the healing begins to unfold.

Funny moments when Tom's brother's wife says "that's just what we need a vegetarian from New York on our cattle ranch."

Annie's deep WANTING for her daughter's recovery is matched by her own transformation that slowly occurs. She tries to do her work while at the ranch and it gets I the way of the flow of what is before her and she ends up losing her job and while stunned, realizes that it is just a job and what is happening here is more important to her.

Annie slowly gets led back into activities that she used to love, like horse back riding and being alone in nature and just being instead of doing all the time.

Annie's desire for deep intimacy that has not been present in her marriage with her husband to date... begins to get rekindled when her and Tom Booker have an attraction for one another. In one scene Tom and Annie are talking on the front porch and Annie's leg is moving up and down nervously... Tom says "do you ever sit still" and Annie replies "if you sit still in New York for to long you get renovated." Interesting metaphor for how one can get lost in the hustle and bustle of life in any big city. Tom encourages Annie to relax into the place while she is here. And then Tom shares his past relationship with his wife... he used to live in Chicago with her and she loved the city and he needed more space and it was just not meant to be... the relationship that is... and an obvious deep love is still very present... Annie asks him "how did you know that you were not meant for each other" to which Tom relies "knowing is the easy part, saying it out loud is the hard part.' In a moment of intimacy between Annie and Tom, Tom says "for what it is worth, it took a lot of guts for you to come here." And then he intimately squeezes her leg, as she is getting settled back on her horse... this is the beginning of a more physical relationship between the two of them.

And then Annie's husband arrives unannounced and the tension between the two of them starts to soften when he says "you were right to bring them here."... The country dance is when her husband gets a clue that something is happening between Annie and Tom... the dance to the song "looking for a soft place to fall" is erotic and touching between them. A scene after this when Annie comes in to the barn after Tom and Tom says to her "you have to figure out what you WANT" and she says "do you know what you WANT"... he reply's "I do know what I want and I am trying real hard not to get lost in this... I never expected to feel this way again. Annie this is where I belong, this is what I want, is this what you want? She says "Yes" and he says if you could go home and change things would you and she replies "it is not that simple" to which he replies "it is that simple."

They talk about being in "Source" "in peace", when stopping for a break after an exhilarating ride. Annie says how she envy's Tom's mother because she is older and has no more "impossible decisions to make" they are mostly behind her... and Tom says "I don't think you have to wait to be her age to find that kind of peace" She asks him if he has that kind of peace to which he reply's "sometimes waking up in the morning, knowing what I am suppose to be doing that day, knowing I'm HOME... she replies that she wakes up every morning, worrying if she made the right decisions and the more I try to fix things the more things seem to fall apart" to which Tom replies "just let em fall." She says "I can't."

Tom begins the process of loving Pilgrim back into positive alignment with the magnificent beast he is... soothing him and loving him daily, step by step... the trauma has caused Pilgrim to forget who he really is. It is such a great story and unfolding and one witnesses how animals help to stabilize us and ground us to the planet.

Tom is also the catalyst who slowly helps brings Grace back into alignment with her Source energy... the joy and wonder of who she really is... knowing full well that a missing limb is not all that significant to who one really is. He gets to know Grace and asks her for more information on what happened that dreadful day of the accident... when she shares, he encourages her to stay focused and present and not go into the deep depression that he knows she could, if she was not focused on the day to day progression of healing Pilgrim and life on the ranch... "do whatever you have to do to hold on and I'll tell you one more thing, you know when Pilgrim reared up on you I think that damn horse loved you so much he was trying to protect you"... lowering Grace's resistance by giving her much needed knowledge about Pilgrim and his love for her... that profound bond between beast and human.

Tom also is the catalyst in bringing Annie and Grace closer together... one evening after the adults find out the Grace tried to ride a horse, Grace goes off in anger and Tom says to Annie "don't let her turn you away" and Annie goes into Grace's room and says how great it is that she is riding again. They break through their anger with one another and Grace starts to cry saying "who is ever going to want me like this, nobody will (she is referring to her leg)"... Annie responds "one day someone will look at this extraordinary woman and all they will see is how much they love you... that is all I see."

Another aspect of this story that is so lovely is how the Bookers live their lives day to day on the ranch. The knowing what they will do each day and going with the flow of nature and the chores and the knowing that this is where they are meant to be and what they are meant to be doing, he ebb and flow of it all. It is lovely to watch how Annie and Grace become part of this daily unfolding doing what they can to pitch in and be of help.

And then the whole aspect of grounded extended family is witnessed when they have large gatherings of the relatives coming over and sharing a day of labor and a meal. It shows the way a person gets a sense of belonging to something greater than oneself, a stability at one's core.

The grand finale is when Tom believes that Pilgrim is ready for Grace to finally ride again. So much preparation has gone into this moment and it is magnificent how Tom knows just what to do to, especially when it appears that Pilgrim is not ready because he behaves as though he is still scared... and then Pilgrim collapses after having the resistance within him worked out and then soothed. Grace is part of the soothing, when Tom invites her over to rub Pilgrim and prepare him for the ride that will release Pilgrim from the trauma once and for all... the deep love and bond between Pilgrim and Grace is shown in this profound scene, with Tom saying to Grace "there is a point when neither of you are going to need me anymore and we are there!" Such a statement of empowerment, the ultimate gift one can offer another... this indeed has been Tom's vision all along. Grace helps lift Pilgrim up with her on his back and Pilgrim begins the ride back into full alignment with the stream of Wellness that flows through him. Grace of course being ecstatic throwing her arms into the air with absolute joy.

Annie and her husband have the moment of truth between them when he says to her "I swear I stood looking at that horse and I swear that the same thing was happening to me and I have two choices, I can either fight the way things are or accept them... see I've always known that I loved you more than you loved me, it didn't bother me... I guess I felt rather lucky, even amazed that a woman like you would want to be with a man like me and I would think if I could be the best husband or the best father and even being a good lawyer was only good if it meant it could get you me... and I didn't ask for more because I told myself I didn't need anymore but the truth is you don't know how you feel about me, you don't know if you want a life with me anymore and the truth is I don't want you to come home until you do know, one way or the other OK... and Annie nods in agreement... hugging him closely and tenderly realizing what he has been through... we the audience are left with the impression after Annie asks Tom for a final ride together and then takes off without the going on the ride... that she is going back home to be more true to herself and her husband...

A wonderful show of love and desire and the unfolding of the universe... as difficult as it can be at times. The LAW OF ATTRACTION is at the heart of all desire, this that we call "WANTING."

The Movie "The Notebook" and the Law of Attraction

The Notebook is my favorite romance movie and a wonderful movie to explain the LAW OF ATTRACTION. It is the story of a young man named Noah, who at the opening of the movie, spots the love of his life, Allie Hamilton. The moment he sees Allie, her knows this is who he is WANTING and he is steady and faithful to this knowledge throughout the entire movie. He comes on screen as a relaxed and easy going young man, who lives day to day, in the state of 'Source Energy."

It is the story of how a man, who from the moment he sees Allie, falls instantly in love with her. His love for her, throughout the movie never falters, not once. Even after Allie is forced to leave the town where they met because her parents do not want her marrying a man of such a low class, Noah continues to love her. He writes her 365 letters for a one year period trying to keep his connection to her, and then finds out that Allie's mother takes all the letters and Allie does not see any of them.

Allie thinks that Noah does not want to see or hear from her again, because he does not write to her. She ends up meeting another man, Lon, when she was working as a nurse at a veteran's hospital. After a while Lon asks her to marry him and she agrees.

In one scene, Noah and Allie are in a big old run down house where they are going to make love for the first time and Noah shares that he wants to build a house some day on this very site and he starts to talk about what it will look like and Allie says

"What about me, don't I get any say in all of this?" and Noah responds "do you want a say in this" and Allie say "well ya, I want a white house with blue shutters and a big old porch wrapped right around the whole porch" and Noah promises then and there that, what she WANTS, he will build.

After one year, he writes one last letter saying, "good - bye" and then stops writing to Allie. He goes off to war and upon his return, his father has sold his house and bought the house that is on the lake for Noah.

At one point, after Noah's time spent at war, Noah goes to a town for some business and ends up seeing Allie, on the street. He follows her and he observes her meeting her new fiance. He kind of snaps emotionally, goes back home and begins to renovate the old house that his father has bought for him, with a fury like never before. It is like he is obsessed with the idea of creating this that Allie wanted, believing that she would return to him.

Throughout, one knows that Noah is still deeply in love with Allie, and reference is made several times to the fact that Allie is still in love with Noah. When Allie sees a photo of Noah at his newly renovated house in the paper, she faints and begins to think of Noah non-stop even though her fiance Lon is waiting.....

Allie decides to take a few days off to go and visit Noah and see how he is. He is stunned by her visit and his love for her becomes immediately rekindled.

He has never stopped "WANTING" her and the universe has now summoned the resources to connect the two of them again. This is the Law of Attraction in Action...what one thinks about and feels about, gets brought about.

They spend time in the house that Noah has renovated, doing exactly what he had agreed to do several years ago, the white house with blue trim and a porch around the whole house and a room for Allie to do her painting. It is the same house that they first made love in years previous. And they talk and reminisce about old times and how they really loved each other back then....Noah invites Allie to go for a boat ride the next day and while they are rowing it starts to pour rain. They end up in gales of laughter and the old love between them comes blazing back into both of their hearts.

At the end of the boat ride, Allie confronts Noah and asks "Why didn't you write" and Noah tells her he wrote 365 letters, one a day for a year, which has Allie confused because she did not receive them. It also rekindles her love for him like never before.

They make mad passionate love and all of the old feelings flood back to both of them. Allie then confronts her mother about the missing letters and her mother gives them all to her. And at a dramatic moment the key question arrives from Noah to Allie, he say in anger "Stop thinking about what everyone else wants" Noah yells "what do you want?? What do you want?"

Allie realizes that she has to make a choice between Noah or Lon...

The universe found a way to reconnect both of them in order to manifest this love that both have yearned for for so long.

Allie, of course, chooses Noah and the story rushes forward to near the end of their lives when Allie has alzheimers disease and Noah is staying in the hospital where Allie is and together they transition to the other side on screen.

One scene the commentator has Noah saying "I am just an ordinary man and I have done one thing well, I have loved a woman with all of my heart and soul." As an older man Noah says to Allie when she is feeling lost... "Nothing is ever lost or can be lost"

A lovely movie of the Law of Attraction in action.

5 Highest Grossing Films of All Time

Have you ever wondered what were the top grossing films in the world? When a film reaches the heights of popularity, it can easily earn more than a billion dollars. The following is a list of the top earning films.

1. Avatar (2009) Directed by James Cameron, the hugely successful film continues to break box office records, approaching $700 million domestically and showing little signs of slowing. The film has yet to be released on DVD, which will add considerably to its grosses. The storyline was on one Cameron spent many years writing and reworking, and it also introduced a new technology to the cinema, being released in 3-D and incorporating heavy use of animation.

2. Titanic (1997) This, of course, is another film directed by James Cameron that did extremely well internationally, and made enormous profit, in spite of the fact that it was the most expensive film ever made at the time. Worldwide box office grosses reached $1.8 billion.

3. The Dark Knight (2008) Directed by Chris Nolan, this film from the Batman franchise rose above expectations, becoming a hit with both critics and audiences. Box office receipts reached over a billion dollars. Mr. Nolan has now become the go-to man for action adventure films and is currently consulting the studios for other films in this genre, including the new "Superman" reboot.

4. Star Wars (1977) Long considered the most successful and influential film of all time, it took twenty years for George Lucas's famous space opera to get knocked out of the top position as the most widely seen film of all time.

5. Shrek 2 (2004) The only animated film to be in the top five, this entry featured the voices of big names like Mike Meyers and Eddie Murphy. Much more successful than its predecessor, this sequel made close to one billion dollars in worldwide box office receipts.

Since the top spot in this list happened very recently, we can see that the list of the most popular films in the world will continue to shift over time.
