Farhan Akhtar and his friend Riteish Siddhwani created Excel Entertainment with the sole purpose of producing movies which would be identified for their fresh and vibrant visuals and to a extent they are successful. They can be accredited with the dawn of the new age cinema that we are watching these days in Indian Film Industry that was started with their first venture Dil Chahta Hai in 2001. Karthik Calling Karthik featuring Farhan Akhtar and Deepika Padukone in lead roles aims to add a new dimension to their vision.
The breezy music of the film is already creating a buzz these days and creating hype for the movie. It is composed by Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy who are a regular feature in the movies produced under the banner of Excel Entertainment. The typical western music is composed keeping in mind the youth of the country. Farhan Akhtar, who made his acting debut with Rock On, continued it with Luck By Chance is looking to give some good films as an actor after his earlier performances were applauded both critically and commercially.
The film revolves around the life of an introvert person Karthik who receives calls from Karthik (himself), which obviously creates problem for him. The man calling himself as Karthik says he is there to change the life of our protagonist and his life does change dramatically after following the advice of this stranger. The film shows the triumph of a loser and an introvert and winning over the love of his life played by Deepika Padukone. Farhan Akhtar is trying his luck as an actor for the third time after getting lucky two times in a row. Deepika's role is also central to the main plot of the film and she has tried not to look like a mannequin in the movie.
It appears that Farhan Akhtar has also tried his best to move to the league of actors who are known for method acting in their films. So, in order to get ready for the role of a recluse introvert, Farhan isolated himself at home and turned off his phone, solved Rubik's cube which his character in the film is required to do in a single attempt. Some portion of the film was also shot in the Indian Institute of Bangalore.
His attempts are sincere and will be put to test by the discerning audience- India and abroad. The film is written and directed by Vijay Lalwani but has traditional flavor of Farhan Akhtar's excel entertainment like it's peppy music by the trio of Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy, lyrics by Javed Akhtar and many more striking similarities that are clearly visible. But as usual, the success of all ventures lies solely in the hands of audience.
