The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, also known as "Il Buono, Il Brutto, and Il Cattivo" is a spaghetti-western film released in 1966. A spaghetti-western is basically a film with a mix up of Italian directors and producers, as well as Spanish producers or directors. These films were popular in their time, and this film specifically was no exception.
It stars Clint Eastwood, most likely the first face you think of when thinking of western films in general. The plot is based around three individuals with separate characteristics and motives that ultimately battle it out for the same prize. This film is what inspired award winning director, writer, and producer Quentin Tarantino. He said it was the one film that made him want to get into film making in the first place. You can see how nearly all of Quentin's films relate to this film in the way the plot is carried out. Take Pulp Fiction for example, this film keeps you guessing about its plot until the end. This film is very original, along with the great majority of the rest of Quentin's works.
What is so great about The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, is its ability to portray its plot so well. This film does not use the conventional plot you see the majority of films today have. Throughout this entire film, you are unaware of what is going to happen next. The plot is one hundred percent original. Consider how most of the films you watch today you can probably guess the ending. The protagonist usually ends up with a spouse and they live happily ever after. This happens far too commonly yet people are still paying to see it, when it is a merely recycled film concept with different colors. What The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly gives is something entirely original that if people learnt from, could produce much greater films today.
What film makers need to produce are more original plot lines. The best films are those that can keep you guessing throughout the film. Today, very few films have this quality. They are all easily guessable usually from the beginning. If people harness this ability for unconventional plots, they may see themselves producing Grammy quality films before they know it.
